As part of ongoing efforts to help prevent suicide, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent a notice to all leaders worldwide inviting everyone to “take an active role within their communities to minister to those who have thoughts of suicide or who are grieving a loss.”
Included with the notice was a 6-page guide “Preventing Suicide and Responding after a Loss” that reviews Church doctrine on suicide, the warning signs of suicide, how to help someone in crisis, and how to respond after a suicide loss. Leaders were asked to review this document with stake and ward councils and discuss how to support community efforts and how to inform members about available resources.
Relief Societies and elders quorums could discuss how to minister more effectively to those who have been affected by suicide and how to prevent suicide.
The Church provides a website at suicide.lds.org with numerous helpful videos. The Ensign, Liahona, and New Era magazines also have published articles about suicide each September over the past few years. This September’s Ensign has a helpful article “Suicide: Myths and Facts.” The Friend magazine also has helps about suicide prevention.

Larry, how can I get a hold of one of the 6page guides, preventing suicide and responding after a loss? My family just lost our youngest sister this past weekend and I would love to read about how to respond after a loss so I can know better how to help my grieving mother and brothers and sisters.
It will soon be posted to the http://suicide.lds.org site. You can access it here: https://lds365.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Preventing-Suicide-Responding-After-Loss-LDS.pdf
