I think it is awesome that this film is available for home viewing now. This one film would be the perfect one to be the first church film to be released on Blu-Ray. It’s that good and I think there would be demand for it.
Is this film the same as “The Restoration” that was released several years ago, or am I confusing similar films?
Actually this is a terrible movie. It should be titled “Joseph Smith Nice Guy”. It does nothing with Moroni, the translation and publication of the Book of Mormon, restoration of the Priesthood, organization of the Church, Relief Society, etc. etc. But it does have JS running around town with the little kids and through the women’s laundry for quite a long sequence. It is quite trivial. I didn’t find this movie compelling at all. Too bad. It could have been so much better. The production values and photography are pretty good. More attention could have also been paid to historical accuracy of furnishings and artifacts of various kinds.
Karl, the Restoration is a separate movie.
Majorie Conder, your so silly. the movie was about the personal character of the joseph smith “The Prophet of the Restoration” and that , the movie did express beautifully. I in fact loved the movie and have been trying to buy it. i’ve been searching for it on sale when i read your skewed comment and im truly sorry you feel so negative about the movie. so to the reader i hope you enjoy the movie as i did. i love the prophet joseph smith however i must say that i do not worship him like i dont worship moses abraham nephi or moroni. I am grateful for them and their unwavering faith to share what they have both seen and heard from heaven. i know that he truly did see both the Father and the Son, jesus christ. i know that they called joseph smith to restore the church christ once had established long ago. and i know that this movie, though it may not have every documented action that we as a church have on the restoration, it does give a beautiful brief glimpse of what he and many others went through. i feel that after viewing this movie, i know the man that much more. which is what the movies intended to portray.
I, too, loved this film. I thought it was a warm and beautiful portrait that illustrated the humanity of Joseph Smith. Those of us in the Church appreciate him as a Prophet, but this brought him to us as a fellow traveler through this world.
This isn’t the full version of the movie. I watched it in the MTC and it’s about 2 hours long, they cut it about an hour because it’s a seminary version, so it’s missing a lot of translation stuff with Emma and some persecution scenes.
We went to Palmyra with my family and watched this wonderful movie in French. But I can not find it in this langage. can someone tell me how I can have it in french ?
Sylvie, Sorry but it’s not available yet in French.
