Editor’s note: The booklet True to the Faith is no longer available. It was replaced by Topics and Questions in the Gospel Library.
I think that the small book True to the Faith: A Gospel Reference is one of the best-kept secrets in the Church.
This is a great reference book in your study of the scriptures and the teachings of latter-day prophets. It takes a topic-by-topic approach with simple explanations of gospel subjects arranged alphabetically like an encyclopedia.
Youth and new converts should receive a copy at no charge from their bishop. Wards and branches can order such copies at no charge using the item number 37054. Everyone else can buy a copy for $3.25 using the item number 36863. You can also download or read the book online.
The book is published in 46 languages.
This book was used several years ago as the basis for the Topics and Questions on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, although many of the topics online have now been expanded. You can reach this section of ChurchofJesusChrist.org by clicking the menu Libraries, then Gospel Library, then Topics and Questions.
I’ve always loved this little book and carry it in my Scripture case. I’m so happy that it’s available for Android and Apple tablets as part of the free “Gospel Library” app too.
I read in the Ensign that when anointing with oil and giving a blessing it should be done only when the receiver is sick or very ill. (Ref:James Chap 5 vs 14-16). Please provide instructions so I will understand when a Priesthood Blessing is accompanied with the annointing with oil and when a Priesthood Blessing can be given without oil.
Thank you Kindly, Warren Johnson
Warren,
Thanks for posting here about your question. However, this is the kind of question that you should ask of your bishop or stake president. He will understand your needs and be able to give you the correct counsel.
Thanks.
