The Church has published a new collection of hymn arrangements for use at home. They can be found on the Church’s Sacred Music app in the section “Hymns at Home.”
The 20 hymns in this collection were produced in various styles with a different featured vocalist on each track. The productions are simple and the message of each hymn is clear and inspiring.
When you listen on the app, you can select “Music Only” so you can sing along. Or choose “Words and Music” to hear the featured vocalists.
The Church’s Sacred Music app lets you browse, search, and play hymns and songs from the Church. Collections include Hymns, Children’s Songbook, youth music, music from Church magazines, and additional songs for children. You can view the words and sheet music and listen to hymns and songs. 20 languages. Available for: Apple iOS and Android.
As a guitar player of some 25 plus years I have always held sacred music to be that….sacred! Not rap, not hip hop, not rock, but sacred. I have played for nursery, and Sunday School and always kept it in the spirit of the author’s making.
This is pandering and is totally wrong … in my opinion.
When I first saw the app I was hoping for these songs with chords so I would not have to use 2nd songbook with chords.
Needless to say I and my wife were disappointed in this app.
I just have to offer a different view! This music isn’t rap or hip hop! 😂 It’s not the Tabernacle Choir either. It’s just pleasant upbeat, uplifting music sung by various performers. It is more pop in style, but it’s reverent. I love it! “Reverence is more than just quietly sitting…”
I absolutely love this music. It is comforting and I feel like it is relatable and speaks to me much better sometimes than the hymns which have, in my troubled life felt sometimes stuffy and made the spirit feel inaccessible to me. That is not a judgement on the hymns, but just to say that I needed something to make me feel like god was approachable.
I used to have the Hymns on my phone as a separate app. On that app I could play the hymns and sing along with the congregation. My Hymns app has disappeared and now seems to be included in the Gospel Library app. However, most of the songs in the hymn book in the Gospel Library app are instrumental only. Is there a way to have the congregation singing so I can sing along with them?
The app with hymns still exists. It is called Sacred Music. See Apple iOS version at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lds-music/id463553380. See the Google Android version at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldsmusic
What happened to all the free sheet music that were arrangements of hymns and original music?
