LDS Music is a new mobile app for music of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It lets you browse and search Hymns and the Children’s Songbook, read the words and sheet music, and listen to accompaniments. Now, you can access the words, music, and audio with your mobile device and not just on the web at music.lds.org.
Editor’s Note (3/9/19): The name of the app has now been changed to Sacred Music.
Download the app for the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch.
This first release has only the basics of what the development team would like to do. Future plans for the application include adding music from Seminary video soundtracks and Young Women camp songs, incorporating new features like playlists and audio controls, and making the application available in several languages, starting with Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
To make these plans happen, the team needs help from the community to extract the words of the songs in Spanish, French, and Portuguese from PDFs. The work doesn’t require high technical skill, it just takes time. If you’re interested in participating in this project, join the project on LDSTech by signing to the site, clicking Projects in the top navigation bar, clicking the LDS Music for iPhone/iPad project, and then clicking Join.
You can learn more about this mobile app, as well as other LDS art and hymns projects on the LDS Tech website.
Will this also eventually be available on Windows and Android platforms?
You’ll probably see Android first and likely next year as we’re getting into the holiday season soon, then Widnows Phone down the road.
I was using this Sunday. Great app. Much needed since there are some pretty significant visual glitches in the song books for the Gospel Library app (especially with the primary hymnal)
I did find a few bugs when reading just the words (no music) Sometimes verses aren’t separated right. It’d be nice to have what is or isn’t repeated text illustrated better too. But overall it’s one of my favorite of the LDS apps.
Will this eventually be available on the BlackBerry as well?
I was waiting for this!! I am so happy!
Good job guys. Looking forward to a windows phone app!
Here ya go again, catering to the iWorld. Some people have better use of their money than spending it on iPhones, iPods, & iPads. Android is actually being used by some.
Those of us who are part of the IWorld,… and use it very effectively in their church callings… thank you very much. This looks like it will be a great addition to the LDS tools on my IPad that I use on a regular basis.
I downloaded the app and installed. App crashes upon opening. Deleted and reinstalled, but still crashes. Running iOS 5.
As for iPad vs. BB: as an owner of both, I am glad this is for the iPad.
It crashes for me as well on my iPhone 4 and iPad2. 🙁
Constantly crashing for me as well on iPad2, iOS 5. Can’t get it to work. Have deleted and reinstalled, same result.
If you’ll delete the app and reinstall, it should work now. We had a corrupted music database on the website, but that is fixed now. We’ve also taken steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for all the kind remarks, we’ll continue to make it better. Also, an Android version is in the works. It would probably go faster if additional experienced Android developers offer to help.
Melissa, There are no immediate plans for the Blackberry, but eventually, yes. Probably sometime late next year.
I did the uninstall and reinstall, works great now.
Larry,
Thanks for your reply email this morning that linked me to this page. However, my wife & I own a Galaxy S II (4G Android). I searched for this App but it it does not show up. When will this App program be available for Androids?
SUGGESTION – – In stead of a separate App, why not update the Gospel Library App for Androids, etc. to read the words and sheet music, and listen to accompaniments on the existing songbook program included in gospel library (as is done by LDS Scriptures.com)?
Paul, they are working on the Android version, and also to incorporate these into a single app. No schedule on it yet. Thanks for the suggestions!
Any word on an android version? Thanks!!
Emos estado esperando esta app para Blackberry, se lo agradeceríamos de todo corazón que nos puedan ayudar, seria excelente.

I would like to know why it appears that the LDS Music uses data when I first open the icon on my iPhone. The flashing circle next to the 3G flashes for a couple of seconds, then goes away. I thought when this happens then data is being used.
Thanks
When do you expect Russian hymns to be availible?
Taylor,
The Music department is getting the copyright clearances for the Russian hymns and hopes to have them on the mobile app sometime this year.
Larry
why is there not an app for a tablet?
Rebecca,
The LDS Music app from the Church ( https://www.lds.org/pages/mobileapps?lang=eng ) does have an app for Apple iOS tablets, but not for the Android tablets.
Larry
It would be awesome if the media player could break up the four part harmony so members could hear and learn their individual parts for the different hymns. I don’t know if this is possible, but it would be great for ward choirs.
Michael,
At music.lds.org, you can break up the four part harmony and hear just the individual parts. This function is not available on the mobile app, but is available online.

This is no longer available in the Amazon App Store, so I’m unable to reinstall it on my Kindle Fire. Do you have plans to make it available for the Kindle again? Installing it from the Google Play Store isn’t an option. I’ve already tried.
