President Thomas S. Monson and other religious leaders have shared their thoughts about the 9/11 anniversary on the “On Faith” blog on the Washington Post.
In his blog post, President Monson noted the significant surge of faith that occurred following the events of September 11th ten years ago as the United States sought to overcome this tragedy.
I was amazed that Mr. Monson claimed that “Americans of all faiths” came together in the wake of the 9/11 attack. What about the reprehensible anti-Islamic backlash which has ensued ever since? Even LDS political leaders stood against the building of a Muslim community center a few blocks away from the World Trade Center site, as if religious freedom shouldn’t exist for Muslims. Apparently “Americans of all faiths” doesn’t include “American Muslims,” at least not for Mr. Monson.
Just because certain people have beliefs, doesnt mean they represent everyone of that faith. Just like muslims dont like being pigeon holed into the terrorist title. I don’t know if President Monson was for our against the building, but again, he can’t be pigeon holed in with those that weren’t.
