This weekend, I saw the movie Son of God. It’s the larger-than-life story of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
This epic movie is well done, covering key events from Jesus’ birth through his teachings, crucifixion, and resurrection.
Beyond the high-quality production values, I was impressed with how well the producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey handled the story, keeping it based on the Biblical accounts. It was reverent, respectful, and emotional.
This movie was made by the same people who produced The Bible TV series. It is the first major Christian movie this year, to be followed by several other feature films:
- Noah retells the story of the great flood. (March)
- God’s Not Dead is about a faithful college student who defends his belief against an atheistic professor. (March)
- Heaven Is for Real chronicles a 7-year-old’s recollection of being in heaven. (April)
- Exodus is the story of Moses leading the children of Israel from Egypt. (December)
- Mary, Mother of Christ is the story of Mary from her youth to her struggles as a young mother caring for her child Jesus. (1st quarter 2015)
I love this trend of faith-based themes in mainstream cinema and encourage you to support positive, values-based media.
To learn more about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, see the Church’s website at JesusChrist.lds.org where you can learn what latter-day scriptures teach about Jesus Christ. For example:
- Learn more about the Atonement of Jesus Christ
- Read The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles (formatted PDF)
- Watch the video Finding Faith in Christ.
- Listen as Elder Jeffrey R. Holland testifies of Jesus Christ
- Watch the Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos, a series similar to the The Bible TV series and the Son of God movie.
I also invite you to read the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ (text online).

Thank you, Larry! This is very helpful information!
Larry,
My husband I, saw Son of God over the weekend, and were so touched. I hope many go out to the movies and watch it. At the conclusion of the film the entire, packed theater erupted in cheers and clapping! It felt great to be among so many of different Christian denominations, unified in Jesus Christ!
Thank you for encouraging this movie among LDS audiences. It was so well done and I’m surprised that so few members have seen or are planning to see it. We need to encourage good things like this in our world.
Am watching the son of god
Amazing movie. Everyone needs to see it while its in the theater. Watching it will help encourage more great productions and discourage some of the trash.
Hey, I went to see the Son of God in the theator. I loved it. This movie will bring tears to your eyes. Please go see this if you haven’t it’s wonderful
Making the movie was a bold move considering how many expectations people will bring to viewing it. I expect each person has their favorite quotes, miracles, and so forth, and if the movie didn’t portray them exactly, some might feel let down.
On the whole, I felt they did a good job. I was only disappointed that the music score n-e-v-e-r let up. I would have appreciated a few moments of silence during especially intense scenes. I didn’t need the music to tell me now to feel.
So I don’t think the movie made the transition from the small screen as well as it could.
Going tomorrow night! Thanks Larry.
