What is indexing?

Digitizing names, dates, and places from historical documents so anyone can search and discover them online.

How does it work?

FanilySearch computers find names in old documents, and people like you help review them. By correcting small errors, you make it possible for others to discover their ancestors.

How can I get involved?

Get involved by choosing one of FamilySearch’s indexing opportunities:

  • Quick Name Review. Review a first or last name and make sure it was transcribed correctly.
  • Full Name Review. Review a person’s entire name and make sure it was transcribed correctly.
  • Indexing Review. Find all members of a family so they can be added to Family Tree together.
