Age-Group Progression for Children and Youth
At the beginning of each year, leaders do the following:
- Introduce the Children and Youth program to children turning 8 that year and their parents (12.5.7).
- Organize children and youth into the appropriate quorums and classes (10.1.3, 11.1.3, 12.1.4, 13.3).
- Ordain eligible young men to the appropriate priesthood offices (18.10.2–18.10.3).
- Organize new quorum and class presidencies, if needed (10.4 and 11.3.4).
- Consider ministering assignments for youth the year they turn 14 (21.2.2).
- Hold a meeting for youth and parents and welcome and recognize new youth (10.2.1.3 and 11.2.1.3).
Annual Youth Activities
In addition to regular activities, youth may also participate in the following each year (10.2.1.3 and 11.2.1.3).
- Youth Camps: See Young Women Camp Guide and Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Camp Guide.
- For the Strength of Youth (FSY) Conferences: Visit the FSY website or speak with a local leader to see if FSY is scheduled for your unit in 2026.
- Youth Conference: Wards or stakes hold a youth conference during years they are not assigned to attend FSY (20.4).
- At least one activity emphasizing the principles in For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices.
Annual Primary Meetings and Activities
- Temple and Priesthood Preparation Meeting: The Primary presidency and bishopric plan a meeting for children in the Valiant 10 class and their parents to help them prepare for priesthood responsibilities and temple attendance (12.1.7).
- Primary Sacrament Meeting Presentation: Later in the year, children present what they have been learning at home and at church (12.1.6).
- Primary Service Activity: This Primary-led activity provides an opportunity to invite friends and ward members to join in community service (12.2.1.3).
Gospel Learning and Teaching
- Come, Follow Me: Old Testament study begins and continues throughout the year. Learn more. Additional manuals are available for purchase at store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

- Fifth-Sunday Class Time: In 2026, there are fifth Sundays in March, May, August, and November. For youth and adults, the bishopric determines the topic and assigns teachers (29.2.8). Primary teachers are encouraged to use “Appendix B: For Primary—Preparing Children for a Lifetime on God’s Covenant Path.”
Tithing Declaration
- September through December, bishops counsel with ward members about the blessings of paying tithing and give them a chance to declare faithfulness to this principle.
