This week’s movie pick is Saints and Soldiers. (See other “Weekend Movie Picks.”)

The movie is about five American soldiers fighting in Europe during World War II who struggle to return to Allied territory after being separated from U.S. forces during the historic Malmedy Massacre.

Below is the movie trailer:

Saints and Soldiers is not a true story, but it is based on actual World War II events and historical fiction that combines elements from various true servicemen’s stories, primarily focusing on the aftermath of the Malmedy Massacre during the Battle of the Bulge. The film uses historical events as a backdrop to tell a powerful story of survival, morality, and honor.

The film is rated PG-13 for mild profanity and depictions of war violence and related intense imagery. You can watch this movie on VidAngel to filter out the language or scenes you don’t want your family to see.

If you like the movie, I also recommend the following movies which tell more of the story of Latter-day Saints in Nazi Germany: Truth and Treason, Bonhoeffer, and Escape from Germany. You may also like the follow-up movies Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed, and Saints and Soldiers: The Void.
