At this year’s conference of the Utah Coalition Against Pornography, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said that pornography has become a public health crisis worthy of the same alarm and attention given to a medical epidemic. He said that pornography represents “the most destructive and evil works of modern times…” (Watch a video of Elder Holland’s talk.)
The good news is that many parents are beginning to see the benefits of teaching their young kids to reject pornography. When children are exposed to pornography, they need to learn to close their eyes, label it by saying to themselves, “That’s pornography,” and go and tell a trusted adult.
Parents can learn some helpful strategies in teaching their children in the article “Raising Pornography-Immune Kids: 7 Strategies for Parents.”
Thank you for posting the link to Elder Holland’s address at the UCAP conference. I attended in person and wished to share his counsel with others. The insights and training I received at this conference were life changing! Near the top of the my list are Pamela Atkinson’s words “There is hope!” So much of the talk around pornography is about negatives and destruction. I learned to have compassion for the addict and to have great hope for individuals and our society to make changes. Just a note… the link in your article to the UCAP website is taking the reader to another site with a similar name. Easy mistake.
