Below is a fun video about the crazy foods that LDS Missionaries have eaten while in the U.S. and abroad.

Very insensitive to the cultures whose foods are discussed here to call them “crazy”. This video paints a very americentric view of the world; i.e., “the U.S. and its customs are ‘normal’ and everything outside it is abnormal”. Meanwhile, Americans are eating things like “pink slime” and mechanically separated chicken, subjecting animals to the horrifying conditions of factory farms, destroying the environment, and killing ourselves with preventable diseases. If anything can be considered “crazy”, I’d say it’s American cuisine.
Most of these “CRAZY” foods can be purchased in U.S. supermarkets. This really just seemed like an excuse to poke fun at other cultures. Sure, most cultures have different foods, based on what they have available to them. As missionaries, we are being welcomed into these other cultures to teach them about our own, and help them gain an understanding of what we believe. Turning around and telling everyone how “crazy” these other societies are does a disservice to the LDS culture and does not promote cultural unity.
Is that the candle we want to light for others to see?
