An article in this week’s Mormon Times talks about using technology to do family history (genealogy) work. There are thousands of blogs related to genealogy and family history used by Mormons, Catholics, Jews, Baptists, atheists, and others to study and find their ancestors.
People are starting to recognize that blogs and other forms of social media work really well for genealogy. Read the Mormon Times story about people finding their relatives through the pages of their blogs. The story includes tips on creating and managing a blog.
Thanks for the link to that article. I started my family history blog, TheAncestorFiles, back in 2007 and have found that the greatest benefit of having a blog is that it allows you to network with distant cousins who are also working on the same family lines. I have had cousins send me scanned photos and documents and histories and other information that I never would have had access to otherwise, and they have been able to use my information to find out about our shared family lines. It has been a real joy to collaborate with the people that I’ve met through family history blogging.
Can anyone help with ideas on how to get a “Roots” club started in an assisted living facility? Are their kits to use? Do we have to have computers for all or could I just bring mine? Is this a feasible idea? cynth
Cynth,
I’d suggest you contact your local family history center. I am unaware of any kits per se, but there are pedigree charts and other flyers that the center could likely provide, if they’re willing to take this on. Please use this link to find the closest FHC to you: https://familysearch.org/locations
