The Church is working on a new section of LDS.org that will bring together all types of media (video, audio, images, etc.) for Church members to use when learning the gospel, sharing the Church’s message with friends and family, or creating material for their families or their Church assignments. It will be a much improved version of the current videos.lds.org, audio.lds.org, and images.lds.org.
The LDS.org team is interested in your help in naming this section. How would you refer to, or search for, a place on LDS.org that houses a collection such as the one just described? If you have any ideas please post them in the comments below.
LDS Media Library seems the most strait forward to me. Are they looking for something more catchy than that?
I like Media Library but I would also want to have a section easily found called Videos, called Audio, and called Images/Photos.
If I am looking for Videos, I may not notice Media Library.
Mormonmultimedia ?? Has alliteration, uses the keyword “Mormon” so it captures an additional audience and just member audience– If it’s strictly for LDS audience, LDSteachmedia….? LDSmultimedia ? LDSmediamap ?
Might be a Microsoft term or something, but what about “Media Center?”
media.lds.org seems an obvious answer… almost to the point of “why are we even asking this question?” As far as the name of the collection… seems again that the word Media is the only obvious choice.
The only alternative I can honestly think of is “Content Library” at content.lds.org. Then you could also put documents in there too.. Like Blogs, and Social Networking information and Content.
Multimedia seems very 1995 to me.. so just MormonMedia would be preferred in my opinion, or just LDS Media.. (which is very close to this site, eh?)
Imago [latin for image].
Vidima [vid(eo)im(age)a(udio)].
I like Resource Library. That is a little more broad than media, so it could include charts and diagrams and things of that nature that don’t strictly qualify as “media”. It would be a good place to put maps of the type found in the Bible, as well as timelines, FHE style charts, felt board sets, and other tools used to demonstrate gospel principles.
How about MarvelousWork? (or is that already taken?)
called it LDS VISIONS for all your gospel learning and sharing
1) “Resources” would be specific enough for people to guess what they’d find there, as well as leaves it broad enough for expansion into different content which may not now be known.
2) “Media” is more specific, but still seems to satisfy the question.
Audio Visual Storehouse
What about multi-media resources? I think that covers all the bases 🙂 Then under the general heading you could have all the different medias to choose from- audio, visual, images, etc.
I like media.lds.org . It is easy to type in and easy to remember.
I like “LDS Media Library” or “LDS Media Center” because it’s easy to translate to other languages, like mine Portuguese, where it can appear as “Biblioteca SUD de Mídias” or “Centro de Mídia SUD”, for exemple. But other opinions, like “Marvelous Works” are wonderful too (in Portuguese can say “Obras Maravilhosas”). The section can be called too as a “mark name” with a more simple “subtitle” like “Marvelous Works: The Official Media Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”, in a graphic design like the used to Mormon Channel in http://radio.lds.org/eng/. Obviously this site is now subtitled as “the official media channel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”, and this will need to change.
We can name it KID’S MEDIA WORLD or MEDIA HELPS FOR KIDS…
I think Media Library or Media Index w/ media.lds.org makes sense. I think it would be great to have it categorized by topic and to have sub-categories of media types included (a video sub-category, an image one, etc.) What a great resource!! Thank you so much for doing this work to help us out.
VIA The Church: Video, Images, Audio Libraries of the Church Or VIAL–Get your fill: Video, Images, Audio Libraries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I’m so excited to watch all of this unfold. Yes, thank you for all you are doing.
I am liking media.lds.org, although I’ve always been a fan of making a URL that will also help with SEO, so I’d lean toward maybe adding ‘mormon’ in there somehow…maybe mormonmedia.lds.org? (I, like Winni, think it could be good to have sub-sections like mormonimages.lds.org, mormonvideos.lds.org, mormonaudio.lds.org, etc.?)
I know for *us* it would be redundant to have both ‘mormon’ and ‘lds’ in the URL, but I do think that the more we can leverage the technology itself to help with the work, the better. Although I’m no expert, my experience has been that ‘mormon’ is used a lot in internet searches by those not of our faith.
Then again, if you don’t really want this to be as readily found by those not of our faith, ignore everything I’ve said. My vote in such a case would be for media.lds.org, called a Multimedia Library, perhaps. I do think that people would tend to search for the specific type of media, so I’d still vote for sub-categories.
+1 vote for LDS Media Library–and/or media.lds.org.
Media-tech. This is an anglicized word from the French mediateque, which means a library containing books as well as all other sorts of media. You could also make it more specific by calling it Mormon Media-tech.
Since this new site is to help us study (work), do missionary work and we are always to be anxiously engaged, why not call it, “The Beehive”
SUPER FUN!! I am not sure what you are looking for, but I tend to wax poetic.
My suggestions are:
“The City on the hill” Matt 5:15
“Parts of the whole” 1 Cor 12:12
“Out of Obscurity” 1 Ne 22:12
“The Fishing Hole” Matt 4:19
“Gathering Intelligence” D&C 93:36, Abraham 3:21-22, D&C 29:7– See what I did there
^_^
My husband suggests “The Trumpet” or “Upon a Candlestick.
for the website address: media.lds.org
For the name of the collection: Gordon B. Hinckley Memorial Media Library. The internet really grew during the time that he was President of the church. Even before then he was instrumental in various Media aspects of the church. The use of film in the temple so that people could receive the ordinances in their own language was one of the things that he helped to bring about. In addition to the dangers of the internet, he also saw the potential good that it could do. It seems to me that naming the online media library after him might be a very fitting tribute.
Media Vault
My apologies for goofing on the website line. (Name, E-mail,Website) The website that I write on is actually administered by another person who is a good friend of mine. The website is http://www.springsofwater.com founded by Rex Goode.
I like Emily’s suggestion: Audio Visual Storehouse
For my search:
The repository for these resources should have a straight-forward name which says what it is, such as: LDS Media Library.
(This could be under the general Gospel Library, which is a little difficult to find on the new site. Has the word “Study” replaced the “Gospel Library” title ???)
It’s how what is inside the LDS Media Libray is titled/labeled/categorized that’s really important – right?
If I were looking for something that I knew the exact title of I would search on that.
If I were looking for a resource to back up a specific Gospel Principle, I would search for that.
If I were looking for a message by a specific person, or a specific story, I would search for that name, or story.
So I guess what I’m saying is that the inside contents of the LDS Media Library should be such that one can search by “title” AND/OR “content” – speaker/author, principle, age-related organization, (Primary, Relief Society, Young Men, Young Women, Priesthood, etc.), etc.
Thanks.
What about just Audio/Visual Library? and the web address could be av.lds.org? if not, I also vote for Media Library.
After reading all the above comments, I think the words “Media” and “Library” should be included. Perhaps “LDS Media Library.”
LDS (Digital) Media Vault
LDS (Digital) Media Center
LDS (Digital) Media Library
Just for kicks… LDS DIVA (Digital Images, Video, Audio)
Mormons In Actions
Since, based on the description, it appears that members can contribute to this how about:
Mormon Multimedia Wiki
LDS Multimedia Wiki
LDS Shining Lights
How about ” THE LDS BEACON”
multimedia.lds.org?
media tools
I like also like media.lds.org. When people think of those things they all fall into that main category. It’s simple and to the point as someone else said.
How about short and to the point LDS Doctrine or LDS Media Doctrine
Since many non-members don’t know us by the initials LDS, how about Mormon Media Center? It’s simple and self-explanatory.
eyeLDS (as opposed to the iLDS), pronounced it sounds like the now in vogue iXXXX but seen it emphasizes the visual (eye) aspects. It brings both to bear in one name.
LDS Audio-Visual Media Center
want to know more => wanna no mor => wannanomor
i think LDSMedia.org is a great choice. i would like for it to be easy to navigate. not for me but for those who barely know how to work a computer.
How about “Member Tools and Resources”.
The word “Media” often is identified with the mainstream news media and outlets. If this is a resources room for members, then its name probably should avoid the term “media” in its name even though such a section contains multiple media resources. It could reflect what members are able to do with the information contained in the section.
Gospel Sharing Room
LDS Resources Room
Mormon Resources
. . . or combinations/variations thereof.
LDS Media Resource Library works for me.
Based on previous names, media.lds.org would seem to work well.
