How many households are abandoning land-line telephones and going mobile-only?
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, nearly 15% of all US households were wireless-only in 2007. 25% of the households in Utah were mobile-only in 2007 (second highest state in the USA). In emerging markets, people are likely to by-pass fixed communications altogether and go straight to mobiles.
I’m mobile-only. When I moved last year, I didn’t see the point of setting up a land-line at my new location. I haven’t missed it at all.
It’s very interesting how quickly the reliability and sound quality of traditional telephony is being discarded for the convenience of wireless devices – which are inferior in every other way.
Recognizing that this is a growing trend, it would be great if a future version of the Church’s MLS program would allow phone numbers to be associated with *individuals* rather than with households. Many young marrieds, in increasing numbers, are not getting land lines and are holding onto individual cell phones.
