May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides a wealth of information and support for mental health. Below is a summary of the resources available.
Mental Health Website
The Mental Health website contains the following sections: General Principles, Help for Me, Help for Parents and Families, Help for Someone Else: Leaders, Member Stories, and Where to Learn More.
Family Services
Family Services is a resource for members and leaders to help with social and emotional needs. Professional counselors who work with Family Services are aligned with gospel principles, and they use solution-focused therapies to focus on issues that interfere with the ability to make and keep sacred covenants.
Self-Reliance Course
The self-reliance course “Finding Strength in the Lord: Emotional Resilience” helps participants adapt to challenges, change thinking patterns, and increase positive emotions, while moving forward with faith in Jesus Christ.
Addiction Recovery Program
“Healing through the Savior: The Addiction Recovery Program” provides support to overcome addiction through the power of Jesus Christ’s Atonement. The program is an adaptation of the original 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc., framed around the doctrines, principles, and beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Suicide Prevention
The Suicide Prevention website contains the following sections: Doctrine and Principles, How to Help, Crisis Help Lines, Loss Survivors, Attempt Survivors, Thoughts of Suicide, and FAQ.
