Editor’s Note (April 2025): FamilySearch Indexing has been replaced by new technology. Learn about new opportunities to help improve historical records.

With the new web-based indexing tool from FamilySearch, volunteers will now be able to work on tablets, modify the layout of the dashboard, set goals, and create groups.

  • Indexing makes the world’s historical records freely searchable online.
  • Volunteers no longer need to download software to help with indexing.
  • First-time indexers can access training with step-by-step instructions. Go to FamilySearch.org/indexing, and click the link to web indexing.

The web-based indexing program has new built-in helps, plus a lab section that lets you test upcoming product features and enhancements for the new program.
