Back in August, I wrote about the new LDS Maps site on LDS.org, previously known as the Meetinghouse Locator.
LDS Maps has now been released in the following languages: Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. With this new upgrade, more people around the world can search in their native language for the nearest places of worship worldwide, as well as meeting times, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I invite you to check out the upgraded, multi-language version of LDS Maps and let your friends know about it.
The application will detect the user’s browser language setting and display the appropriate language page (if the language is available, otherwise English will be displayed). Users can also change the language using the selector located at the bottom of the page.
Great additions. Is there an API for this? I’d like to use it in an iPhone app about LDS basic beliefs. Give the curious people in the App Store a way to find out accurate information about the Church (and where to find it) without signing up for missionary visits. I’d like to integrate the Mormon.org missionary chat feature as well…
Great additions! Is there a way to specify a location in the URL? I’d love to be able to link to maps.lds.org and have the specific location I’m interested in shown up on the map right away. It would help a lot with my missionary efforts. Thanks!
More needed updates:
1) The Stake for a particular address. For instance, if I type in 97223, it will not only show the ward that is closest, but the Stake the ward belongs to, and CONTACT information, i.e., a name and phone number of the agent Bishop or Stake President. Inputting this info can be driven by the Stakes, rather than from Church HQ.
2) Temple info, which Temple is the closest, and contact info.
3) What Mission, plus contact info.
With the old meetinghouse locator, you could drill down to the Stake level and find names and contact numbers, at least.
