This month marks the 10-year anniversary of a landmark address by Elder David A. Bednar where he told Latter-day Saints that their efforts to communicate gospel messages through social media channels was a good beginning, but only a small trickle. “I now extend to you the invitation to help transform the trickle into a flood,” he said. “I exhort you to sweep the earth with messages filled with righteousness and truth—messages that are authentic, edifying, and praiseworthy—and literally to sweep the earth as with a flood.”
Since then, millions of Latter-day Saints have responded by sharing gospel messages on social media. Church leaders have also expanded and increased their use of social media to share light and truth.
Soon after Elder Bednar’s address in 2014, I published a small book, 101 Ways to Hasten the Work Online, with suggestions of simple and practical ways for members to use technology and social media to hasten the work of salvation and exaltation.
In commemoration of the 10-year anniversary, I have updated the book and offer it as a free PDF download.
We live in a remarkable age of technological miracles that I believe the Lord has inspired to accomplish His purposes.
“We are the gospel message”
As a follow-up to his address given 10 years ago, Elder Bednar recently met with media representatives to discuss how we can use social media to share the gospel. Watch the video below:
Elder Bednar shared a clip from the video interview on his social media channels, and the Church posted a 10-minute segment on its YouTube channel.
