If you have an Amazon Echo device, you can now teach it to play LDS hymns and Primary songs. Use it for singing along in Family Home Evening, at bedtime, in Primary sharing time or singing time, or any other time you want to use hymns from the LDS Hymnbook or songs from the Church’s Children’s Songbook.
Roger Pimentel, an LDS man who works as a product manager at Amazon, created these Alexa skills. He explains he built them “for own our use for singing along in FHE, and I’d love to have you give it a try and let me know your feedback.” Roger also explains that they “could also be fun to use in a Primary calling, in a class or in sharing time/singing time.”
LDS Hymns
Enable this FREE skill in one of three ways:
- Go to the LDS Hymns Alexa Skill at Amazon.com and click the “Enable” button.
- Go to the Alexa app you used to set up your device and navigate to the Skills tab on the left side.
- Or, just say “Alexa, ask LDS Hymns to play The Spirit of God” (or any hymn), or “Alexa, ask LDS Hymns to play How Firm a Foundation,” or “Alexa, open LDS Hymns.”
Primary Songs
Enable this FREE skill in one of three ways:
- Go to the Primary Songs Alexa Skill at Amazon.com and click the “Enable” button.
- Go to the Alexa app you used to set up your device and navigate to the Skills tab on the left side.
- Or, just say “Alexa, ask Primary Songs to play I Am a Child of God” (or any Primary song), and it will play it. Or say “Alexa, open Primary Songs.”
Note: Be sure to choose the skill LDS Primary Songs by Roger Pimentel (the link above). There is another skill of the same name that doesn’t let you choose which song to listen to.
Roger Pimentel would love to connect with anyone else who is developing this kind of technology or interested in collaborating.

I would love to see something similar on Google Home. 🙂
I would love to have this on Google!
Thank you for enabling hymns. I would love to be able to listen to past general conference talks and BYU devotionals/forums.
Thanks for this! I just installed it, but I don’t have a song or hymn I want to hear specifically. Is there a way to play random, shuffle, or play through? I tried asking this in various ways, but “Sorry, I can’t find that one; which song would you like to hear?” was the reply… Any tips?
This is awesome. The echo would be perfect if it would just let me block any songs marked explicit. My kids have accidentally turned on f-bomb laden songs way too many times ?
Conference talks please….
I would like to be able to listen to the chapters in the book of mormon. It would be great to listen to if sitting down and reading is not an option at the time.
You can do this by downloading the Book of Mormon in your Kindle and Alexa can read it for you, it picks up where you are reading In the app
I am trying to get Alexa to play Roger Pimentel’s LDS Primary songs and or LDS Hymns. The only thing I have been successful getting Alexa to play is I Am a Child of God by Paul Cardol.
I would also love to get conference talks, Book of Mormon, other scriptures, devotionals, etc. on Alexa.
Once our power went out, when it came back on Alexa was broadcasting on our sound system to our TV. I don’t know how to get it to do it again.
Playing The Mormon Channel would be nice.
Great Skill!
I’ve also found a bluegrass group that plays primary songs. You can ask Alexa to play songs by The Kentucky Sunbeams. There’s about 10 songs there.
Fanrastic!……thank you!
