The Church has published a new art book about the Mormon Trail: Saints at Devil’s Gate: Landscapes along the Mormon Trail. This book features 52 contemporary landscape paintings of the trail with quotations from pioneers who made the journey.
Accompanying the book is a new exhibit at the Church History Museum, also available as an online exhibit. Learn more about the exhibit).
The book features dozens of paintings by three Mormon painters, John Burton, Josh Clare, and Bryan Mark Taylor, who traveled and painted the Mormon Trail landscape. The book gives written and visual context to the pioneers’ experience of the trail, bears witness to the land as it exists today, and links the experience of pioneers to the challenges of today.
