Today’s theme for the #LightTheWorld Christmas initiative is “Jesus Taught Us to Clothe the Naked and You Can Help.”

Our family decided that rather than exchanging Christmas gifts among the siblings, we would instead buy gifts of toys and clothes and donate them to the Utah Refugee Connection. They also have a mobile app that lists the items most needed for donations.

We went shopping with our kids and grandkids so they could pick out the toys and clothes to give to someone else. We then took them to the refugee center to drop off the donations and it was good for them to see some of the refugees and the cause they were helping!

This year, the Church’s Christmas initiative is called “Light the World” and the theme is “25 Ways Over 25 Days.” The Church provides a service advent calendar with a service theme for each day from December 1-25. Each theme includes ideas on how to serve and an inspiring video.

Throughout the month of December, the Church invites you to share the light of Christ by participating in #LIGHTtheWORLD.

  • Invite your friends to watch a new Christmas video at Mormon.org/christmas.
  • Share your experiences using the hashtag #LIGHTtheWORLD.
  • Follow the advent activity calendar for ideas on Christlike acts of service you can do each day from December 1st to the 25th to emulate the many ways Jesus cared for others during His earthly ministry.
