About The Piano Guys
The Piano Guys are an American musical group consisting of Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Paul Anderson, and Al van der Beek. What do you get when you mix up a marketing genius that does video, a studio engineer that writes music, a pianist that had a successful solo career, and a cellist that does pretty much everything? The Piano Guys: a miraculous meeting of “guys” with the same intrinsic purpose — to make a positive impact in the lives of people all over the world through music videos.
Several of the group’s YouTube videos have over 40 million views, and together they have more than half a billion views. 4 million people subscribe to their channel.
Beliefs of The Piano Guys
They are happy to share their Mormon beliefs with their fans. Here is the “Our Beliefs” section from the Piano Guys’ About page on their website:

While following your dreams, was there ever times where you wanted to give up, and say, “You know what? I am done! I can’t do this! There is no hope in this dream!”? I have a dream, and sometimes it feels like it is too high and to big for someone that is 12. How do you cope with this devastation? How do you get back on your feet? Thank you, and I love your music!

I am a YW leader and a mother of teenagers. How did you or do you keep your focus and not get distracted by all the world has to offer? I guess I’m asking how to develop self-discipline because I know learning an instrument is not easy and requires lots of hours of practice. But sometimes it seems like it is me who is doing all the pushing when I want them to step up and take responsibility for their own accomplishments, whether it be learning an instrument, getting good grades, finishing up the requirements for an eagle or personal progress. Did your mom and leaders do a lot of pushing until it clicked with you one day?
I’ve been taking piano lessons since I was eight (I’m thirteen now). My mom wants me to practice everyday. Sometimes I love practicing but sometimes I have to DRAG myself to the piano (I’d rather be playing games!!!) How can I get myself to play with passion and not view practicing as a chore? I’ve heard horrible stories of those who gave up playing and later regret for the rest of their lives. No, I don’t want to have any regrets. Thank you!
How did you meet and decide to start a band?
