On Monday, we reported that “Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration” was the first full-length motion picture the LDS Church has released on the Internet.
As of today, it is also the first full-length Church movie available as a free download. Just below the movie online at MormonChannel.org, you can now download a 300k or 100k MP4 version.
Because of these free downloads, there are no current plans to release this revised version of the movie on DVD.
Not released on DVD? That is unfortunate, as I checked the online video and it is not captioned/subtitled for the deaf (I’m deaf and is a LDS member). :/ There are so few LDS online videos that are captioned….pretty disappointing, IMO
Wonderful! Thanks again very much. (Now if you could just add this movie to iTunes. 🙂 )
Any plans to release online in HD?
I second this. The 1000k file is 640×480 and obviously very compressed. I recognize the Church is moving into streaming as a primary distribution channel for its content (which I applaud), but I and many others would also appreciate seeing its films in true high definition. A high-quality viewing experience increases the emotional connection between the audience and the material, plus it helps us appreciate the significant financial resources that went into building detailed sets, and creating authentic costumes and convincing special effects. Blu-ray has finally gone mainstream in the U.S., but it hasn’t yet hit that tipping point internationally, so I recognize the Church may not want to invest in Blu-ray replication services or facilities — at least, not until testing the waters first. If a 4GB movie file were available for download (allowing for an OK-to-decent 1080p video bitrate and 5.1 surround), I think there would be a lot of interest.
I enjoyed “The Testaments” and “Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration” immensely in the Legacy Theater, and would love to add them to my library in the highest quality consumer format available. The DVD versions will suffice for now, so long as they are authored well. I’m concerned that current trends value convenience over quality.
I just went to the website and it is now available in 720p and 1080p as well!
As a Brazilian and a long date movie collector, I believe the Church need to release a DVD version of the movies it produces, in special the long-lenght movies like the releases of Legacy and The Testaments.
Internet services aren’t so good as in USA or Japan in other parts of the world. Our broadband internet service is one of the more hard cost in around the world.
Since that, and the fact internet aren’t available in all the homes, I believe the DVD discs aren’t only a pretty thing to collect and to has in our minds as a fisical thing, but is an effective way to share the gospel with our friends and researchers of our faith.
This has been released on DVD. It’s on the church website/store. Here is the listing (english version of LDS.org) http://store.lds.org/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product3_715839595_10557_21082_-1__213523.
Such a beautiful movie!I wish everyone would watch it & feel what I have felt.
The well-known Hollywood companies can no longer specify what the ticker buyers really want or can get as they have previously. As you additionally distribution on the Internet and, headlines web pages, from gossip to entire movies. It really is a completely new planet. Much of it fine, some not.
feeling impress to watch lds movies. And make me more interesting and understandable.
