The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has created a short video that explains the purpose of Mormon temples.
Please consider posting this video to your Facebook profile, blog, or personal website and/or sharing it directly with family and friends. Thank you.
Awesome. I’ll post it immediately. The Church should make these in HD for YouTube.
Beautiful video! Simple explanation.
Many thanks! I’ll post as well.
FWIW, do you realize that by posting the video on YouTube you’ve made it invisible to the entire BYU campus (where YouTube is blocked)? Could another copy be placed somewhere else where BYU faculty and students could have access to it from on campus?
Was also surprised to see that this wasn’t in HD–most of the other Church videos have.
Anyway, will post. Awesome to see this on lds.org!
(BYU should unblock MormonMessages!) 🙂
Thanks for the comments. Yes, we are aware that BYU blocks YouTube. For those who would like to access a non-YouTube version of the “Why Mormons Build Temples” video, you can find it at mormon.org under the Truth Restored tab. Please feel free to share this information with others at BYU. Part of the reason we wanted to use YouTube is to try and give the video itself greater exposure outside of the LDS community. Currently the video is the #22 most-watched video on YouTube (and still climbing).
The reason we didn’t post the video in HD is that the original source materials are a little older and were only shot in SD. We could upconvert them but didn’t think this would be much of an improvement.
This is a beautiful video!
I really like the photos in this of the temples, but I just can’t get the sound to work… It has to be good, the church always displays wonderful explanations about Temples & the purpose of Marriage. I’ll be sure to post it on my Facebook. 🙂
I have seen much of this before but it is always so beautiful and wonderful to see again. Thank you. It is posted.
A large portion of this is used in a video shown to guests as they prepare to tour the new Draper Utah temple. I think it is used in other temple open house videos, as well. It really is simple and beautiful! What an inviting feeling it gives the viewer, at least for me it does!!
A strong visual…why no mention of marriage for
time and eternity and the uniting of families in
an eternal bonding (sealing) which provides the opportunity to live with Jesus Christ and God the Eternal Father as their sons and daughters forever?
What greater message does this world need!
This message should be heard all over the world ; and those who hear it should take it to heart. The temple is the closest place we have to heaven here on earth. The photos of the temples are beautiful and the pictures of the baptismal font are amazing. These photos have opened lines of communication and interest in the TRUTH of the LDS faith. AMEN!!
This short presentation is well done and conveys the ancient background to baptism for the dead. As a Temple ordinance worker, who is asked by so many non member friends about my activity there, marriage for time and all eternity should be included. That ordinance gives all of us eternal hope and promise.
Fabulous, and a well-timed, truly Christlike response to some of the recent fire the Church is presently coming under on cable television.
Beautiful pictures and material. Truthful and honest. A wonderful video to relay such an important message as this. Thank you.
I agree with the other comments that this video is beautifully done and deserving of being viewed all over the world. I once served as the LDS Stake Public Affairs Director many years ago and would love to have had this available then. It is so inspirational and better explains the spirituallity of our Temples…so much better than simple words can do.
This is Beautiful, Honest and Truthful. It is where we are taught the precepts of God. Where we receive our Endowments and are sealed together as Couples & Family. Where we also do the work for those who have preceded us. I have served in the Mesa Temple for 19+ years.
The greatest responsibilty in this World that God has laid upon us is to seek after our dead!
I agree with all of the aforementioned comments. It is a very well done video and deserves to be seen by all people. Just realize that when it is presented in a venue such as “You Tube” it will draw some vile, indecent, and disgusting remarks for this is the nature of the site. That’s why it’s banned at BYU. I just hope that our people are ready to accept that with dignity and poise. Otherwise, we will fall into the trap of those who would benefit from our angry remarks. May we rise above the urge to do so.
How can I post this on my blog at blogspot? Keep in mind that I am computer illiterate for the most part.
Thanks
Candy, to put the video on blogspot, you can enter a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x_-TQivCx8, or to embed the video so it appears right there, so people can watch it without leaving your blog, you can click on the tab to enter HTML text, then enter the “embed” code. To find that code, go to the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x_-TQivCx8, then find the “embed” code that appears just to the right of the video. Copy this code and paste it into your blog as HTML text.
What a beautiful presentation. Will post. Temples is the place to be close to Heaven. So peaceful and reverent. Thank you.
Thank you! When something upsetting occurs in the media about the church, it’s principles, or beliefs we look to our leaders for the example of how to react. This is what I needed to see. Thanks for sharing!
Truly beautiful! I agree, it is reverent, and quite moving and makes me so grateful I have the opportunity to attend and feel the spirit and do the work. What a beautiful presentation. Thank you, I will post and send it. Thank you again.
nicely done, I get asked alot about temples and this is such a beautifully simple explanation, Thank you for posting it so I could post to my FB
that is such a wonderful way of explaining our temples and it was nice to see other people outside our faith remarking on its magnitude.
I’m sorry but as an outsider with and inside connection (I’m married to a Mormon), this video told me nothing about the purpose of the temples. It is vague and non-descript, the same thing I get from my husband and his family. It may be good for members but not very informative to non-members.
Michelle, thanks for your honest feedback on the video. What specific questions or topics do you wish it had addressed? We are currently working on a follow-up video that explains more about temples and it would be nice to know what kinds of things you would like to see explained further.
This movie really touches my heart. It is wonderful to hear from respectful people from other religions when they soften their hearts and conduct themselves with honor. This is the right way to talk about temples and other religion matters don’t you think so?
The video that was posted to explain the temple does not appear and appears to have been removed.
Temples is Heaven !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
More peop; should know about this I think it is great. Proud to let everyone know that I am a member of the LDS Church. Well done.
Is it possible to add open or closed captioning so that deaf/Deaf viewers can watch it with understanding, too? Thank you!
Thanks for making this great message put so very simply. Becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the best thing I ever did in my life. Thank you!!!
TEMPLES…The gateway to “ETERNAL HAPPYNESS!…
thanks for the short video..Im so happy for you…unbelievable…I’ll post it..say hi to everyone …love you guys..I’ve read some comments…sometimes you when you’re being introduced or enterring a new or different environment, you have certain expectation depending on degree of information you have already recieved. some may be acceptable some may not, depending on your own personal belief..remember everything god created is perfect..its up to you how you accept it and use it..if you open your heart..hopefully its not for your own personal gain..its for you to share..not to keep..remember, nothing here is yours from the beginning..
This is a perfect explanation of the work in the temple. I will post it.
Thank you for a beautiful message on the purpose of Temples! I actually get excited when there are events in the media or an attack from Hollywood on our beliefs because it usually back fires and those who are brave enough or ready to ask questions of the church, find the strength and great missionary opportunities arise!! Take that Satan!!
Those of us with dail-up get a very choppy version of the video. Is there a way to improve it for slow speed transmission?
The videos were so inspirational & touching! It’s not always easy to explain the meaning of WHY Mormons have Temples, that was very well done 🙂
Thanks & Enjoyed that very much 🙂
Good stuff!! What is missing…..As a convert, I found the eternal family unit as being one of the most impressive elements about the temple — they junction of God and mankind. I found that striving to become what “Heavenly Father IS” is compelling and that I am not destined to be some fencepost in some God’s garden or 444,000’th harpest in an orchestra, but that He really means what He teaches us in the Bible about our becoming “perfected” through obedience and by Christ’s grace. On the flip side, I also understand feeding a steak to a child can cause more grief than growth…
What a great video. I love it!!!!
Congratulations on doing what Elder Ballard told us to do – get these “conversations” out into the world!
Temple makes a better person and will help understand the whole plan of salvation.
Great video, but what makes it interesting for me is watching the Catholic bishop talking about the temple as if he was there. I think he’s ready to join the church. Anyone there thinking of converting him?
Ditto about the Catholic bishop! He is what my mom calls a dry Latter-day Saint….someone needs to get him dunked! He’s ready!! Very compelling video!
I AGREE WITH MICHELLE. I AM A CONVERT AND DON’T
FEEL IT IS REALLY ADEQUATE FOR NON-MEMBERS. IT
SAYS HOW WONDERFUL TEMPLES ARE BUT NOT REALLY WHY
WE BUILD THEM. FURTHER EXPLANATION WOULD BE
DESIRABLE.
It is a very beautiful and soft spoken video. I would love to see a bit more directness towards answering the “why” (like saying this is where we preform some holy ordinances like baptisms for the dead or marriages), but hopefully the clips that would be added can be kept as soft spoken as the rest of the video.
Well done.
This is Beautiful, Honest and Truthful. We need in more languages like Brazilian. I have many friends excited to make subtitles.
I am a Catholic that happened to see the “Big Love” episode that inspired this short video. I felt that the episode in question actually explained more of the mystery of the temple rather than exploit its purity. The ritual aspect was comforting and unexpected. As a catholic, no matter where I am the rituals of the mass are the same east or west coast of the United states and everywhere in between. Also, in any nation. After the episode, I asked my LDS friends if the rituals where the same every time and if they where universally the same in all temples. The response of, “yes” was very comforting to realize that ritualistic, bible based traditions are not only in the Catholic faith. That episode brought more positive light to your faith than negative…in my opinion.
