To help promote the proper use of the internet in LDS meetinghouses, many websites, social media, and apps will be blocked if they are not related to Church purposes.
The change in the internet configuration in Church buildings beginning in May will block access to sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Xfinity TV, Netflix, and Hulu. Accessing these sites during Church meetings often creates difficulty for those who are trying to use it for Church purposes.
The following is the list of non-Church related websites and apps that are being added to the list to be blocked:
- Tumblr
- MySpace
- Flixster
- Xfinity TV
- Spotify
- Pandora
- Rhapsody
- Netflix
- Amazon Video
- Hulu
- Soundcloud
- Zynga
- Kahoot
- Clash of Clans
- Big Fish Games
- Gamespot
This information was sent today in a My Callings email to stake and district presidents, bishops and branch presidents, stake and district clerks, and technology specialists.

But doesn’t this assume that the wireless in the building actually works and has coverage beyond 20ft from the source?
Thank you. This should help in several ways.
Kahoo was dropped from the list after it was found to be an educational site. Teachers set up a few questions and the students have to enter a code to see that one set of questions. It has become popular for seminary teachers to use to gain insight into what students already know about what is in what they are about to teach.
AAOne major streaming media site (and about half of the above are) are streaming media sites. One they missed is iHeart Radio, a streaming music service that is third behind Spotify and Pandora. Newer services for streaming TV are known too, DirecTV Now and SlingTV work like Xfinity, Hulu, or YoutubeTV.
Just get a couple on the average meetinghouse network on one of those and those that need to get something for a class or show in real time are going to have problems with buffering or not being able to see the resource at all. Many who have seen this are all agreed that something needed to be done, and finally with this it was.
